Steve Kennedy
International Mr. Deaf 2006
|
|
|
I was born on September 30, 1958. My parents thought I was
quite a mischievous toddler until I was diagnosed
with severe profound deafness at age three. The cause was
from birth and naturally, my family had a fear that I might
not survive in the hearing world being deaf. They hired a
speech therapist to work with me, but also realized I would
benefit from using
American Sign Language. I started my education
at a deaf residential school in Santa Fe, NM at age 4 and
learned sign language, lip reading and speech at the same
time. By age 15, I was transferred to a local hearing public
school and graduated
in 1978. I completed a Masters degree in Metaphysics Divinity
in 1995 and am currently living in Seattle, Washington. My
history with the leather community has been varied and has
included such positions as educator, writer, board member,
emcee, contest den daddy, IDL contest producer, judge and
now titleholder. |
